Week 50: Matthew 11:28

Week 50: Matthew 11:28

Week 50

Matthew 11:28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.”

The Christian life, all of it from beginning to end, is really about coming to Jesus.  We come to Him with saving faith at our conversion, and we keep coming to Him in prayer, love, and submission all through life.

It is amazing how many times Christians forget to continue to come to Jesus throughout life.  We feel perhaps that we have already come to Him; thus, we need not come again.  But we DO come to Jesus all through life; living the Christian life is really about coming daily to Jesus.  We come to Him for peace when our souls are troubled, we come to Him for strength when life overwhelms us, and we come to Him for His renewal when our souls are weary and worn.  There is never a day, never an event, and never a need, but that we must COME TO JESUS.  And we come to Him JUST AS WE ARE, not dressed up in human righteousness or falsified promises to do better, we just come to Him.

It is helpful to note what Jesus says in John 6:37, “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.”  The declaration is this: Those whom the Father chooses WILL COME TO JESUS.  The promise is this: Those who come to Jesus, He will NEVER CAST AWAY!

Christian friend, come to Jesus today; come just as you are, with all your struggles, pain, and worries.  Bring all that challenges your faith and pour out your heart to Him.  He is not disinterested in your situation; rather, He loves you so much that He gave His life for you on the cross.  He will not turn you away!  He will not disappoint or hurt you; you can come with the utmost confidence that His eternal love and mercy will cradle you softly in His understanding and help.  So, come, come in prayer, come in faith, and come to Jesus with all that you are. He is your friend in need forever.

What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!

What privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,

All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.”

       (Joseph Scriven)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I so often fail to pray when my heart is weak, hurt, or afraid.  And when I do pray, I find it so difficult to turn over to You my deepest fears.  But today, I give all that I am to You.  I give You my fears, I give You my worries, and I give to You my life.  I trust You absolutely and completely.  Thank You for loving me the way You do; I do not think I will ever understand how great Your love is.  But I thank You for loving me the way You do.  Forgive me of sin, guide me in Your path, and show Yourself strong in my life.  Amen.
