Week 37
Psalm 105:1 “Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples!”
There is joyful energy in these words. These words written by the psalmist convey a heart full of faith, thanksgiving, and joy. This is a man who knows the Lord and has found Him to be fully and completely reliable and dependable. The Lord has become for him the target of his joyful praise.
This kind of thanksgiving pours out over the boundaries of life; it cannot be contained. If we had eyes to see all the beautiful and wonderful things that God has done and is doing for us in Christ, we might feel that we would explode in enthusiastic delight and wonder. Oh, that we had eyes to see, minds to understand, and hearts to feel! Our glorious Savior is worthy of all praise and worship. He, and He alone, is the One to whom we must look in our lives for all that only God can provide. He satisfies the soul, and He is the Shepherd of our faith. How majestic and wonderful is our God! We are satisfied in Him.
The psalmist does two things in response to what God has done: 1) He prays, and 2) He declares the Lord to others. Every time we find a happy Christian, he is doing these two powerful things: praying and declaring. God’s past faithfulness fuels today’s prayer. We look to Him in our needs of today, we beseech His mercy and guidance as we face today’s challenges. We have found Him faithful in the past, and this establishes our assurance that He will continue to be faithful today and into the future. Our life path may be hard and rugged, but it is also sprinkled with grace and divine provision. There are times when our understanding cannot perceive that God is working, but He is! And one day we will look back and see it clearly through sanctified eyes.
No wonder the psalmist declares “His deeds among the peoples.” He cannot contain his joy! The Lord has been good to him; the Lord has met him in the deepest part of his need. And because the Lord was with him and stood with him in sovereign power and grace, he did more than survive – HE THRIVED! He found beauty and joy in the journey, because God had done marvelous deeds. He found meaning and purpose in God’s merciful care, and he found fulfillment that inspired his faith and trust for the heartaches to come. He was full!
Dear friend, the same God of heaven and earth watches over you and cares for you. Trust in Him to do what only He can do in your life. Yield yourself fully to His gentle and kind hands, knowing that the Lord cannot fail or make a mistake. His dark allowances are kindness in disguise, and you will one day see the beauty of it all. Rest and be calm in His soft care.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me not to fret, but to look to You in faith and prayer. Support me and guide me as You will; I trust You. Amen.
