Week 20: Habakkuk 2:3

Week 20: Habakkuk 2:3

Week 20

Habakkuk 2:3 “For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end – it will not lie.  It seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.”

Are you patient?  Do you like to wait?  Have you ever felt like you were waiting on God?  Do you enjoy waiting on God?  How should a Christian wait on the Lord?  These and other important questions regarding waiting on God often come to our minds during times and seasons of waiting.

Habakkuk was told by God to wait for God’s actions and the unfolding of God’s plan.  Habakkuk wrongly thought that God was passive and perhaps indifferent to the situation that caused Habakkuk such concern.  But this was a false perception of God; He was not only concerned, but God was also planning to do something about the problem, something that was stunning to Habakkuk.

What can we learn from this passage and its truth about waiting on God and His plans?

First, we must learn that God has plans.  God is not passive or unconcerned. We do not have to see God working for God to be working.  Our perception of divine activity or inactivity is not the measure of what God is doing.  God has plans, but He is not obligated to tell us His plans.  Why doesn’t God tell us His plans?  He does not tell us His plans for two reasons: 1) He is God, and He doesn’t have to tell us; and 2) He doesn’t tell us His plans because it is best for us to know only what God wills for us to know.  It is enough to know that God is God, and He is working out His plan.

Second, we must learn that God’s plans are for us.  God’s plans include His people.  His plans for earth and the human race have a specific target group in mind – Christians!  What God is doing is for the good of His people.  This is why the Bible says in Romans 8:28 that God will cause all things to work together for good for those who are the called, for those who love Him.  This is why Romans 8:37-39 says that we overcome through Him who loves us, and nothing will ever remove His love from us.  His plans for the big concerns include His plans for each and every child of God.

Third, we must learn that God’s plans for us are good plans.  God’s plans for His people are good plans.  This is why Psalm 84:11-12 states that God will not hold back from us any good thing that we need.  God provides superabundantly for His people, and these gifts are given wisely and in a timely manner that fulfills God’s will and the achievement of our godly development.

Fourth, we must learn that God’s plans for us cannot be thwarted or destroyed.  There is nothing in this world that can stop God’s plans from being fulfilled for us, His children.  We are safe in His hands; we are safe in His plans.

Fifth, we must learn that we should, as God’s people, joyfully yield ourselves to God and His plans, waiting on Him to do what He has promised to do.  Wisdom dictates that Christians must yield to God’s will no matter what.  Even if we don’t understand, let us say, “YES”, to God’s plans for us.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for Your plans for my life.  I choose You, and I choose Your plans for me.  Please lead me in the way You want me to go.  Amen.
