Week 16
Psalm 147:3 “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
Complaining is easy to do, and grumbling is common. Satan would have it so! His approach in temptation to Eve was to create dissatisfaction with God’s gifts and disgruntlement with God Himself. This was the fertile soil into which Satan dropped the seed of sin, seed which grew to full-blown rebellion against God.
In this world of sinful disobedience to God, the harvest is bitter and sour. We are swimming in an ocean of sorrow, suffering, and struggle. This is a world of woundedness and heartbreak.
This is true even for God’s people. We find our troubles to be common with the human race, but in addition we have the added burden of opposition and antagonism from the world. This world flings its darts of destruction and despair at the heart of the child of God. Sadly, even some Christians seem to be good at joining Satan in canceling other Christians, resulting in their droopy spirit and a sad heart.
In such times, the Christian wonders, “Where can I go with this deep burden and anguish?” Our text today speaks words of calmness and peaceful hope. The psalmist says (speaking of God), “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” The Lord is the physician of the heart, and He cares for us in the deepest regions of our grief and sadness.
How does God heal the brokenhearted and bind up the wounds of the hurting Christian? He heals us with His Word, which gives us guidance and promise. We find direction for our doubts and promise to grant to us hope. In addition, the Lord draws near to our hearts through His Spirit, assuring us of His unending love and care. There is no circumstance or place in life where God is not with us. There is no happenstance in this life whereby God in His grace is not sufficient. And there is no dark loneliness in this life where the light of Christ’s sweet presence and provision cannot penetrate and radiate His glory.
Christian friend, as the Lord ministers to you in your heart brokenness, He will grant to you His certainties that will anchor you that you will not be blown hither by the winds of turmoil and trouble. He will soften the blow of this world’s hatred with the lovingkindness of His assurance and peace. He will heal you for future service and work for His glory and honor. Although there will be heart-scars left for future contemplation and amazement, those scars will not prohibit or deter Him from using you in the days to come. He will lead you, and He will bless you. He will heal you for the on-going work of Christ in your life.
Prayer: Dear Lord, my heart is broken! Please, sweet Physician of my heart, heal and restore me by Your love and grace. I look to You for all things, and I trust You with my life now and forever. I love You, Lord, and I thank You. Amen.
