Week 11
Romans 13:12 “The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore, let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.”
As Christians we live in an increasingly depraved world, and we might begin to think that the future is dark and dismal, full of anxiety and worry. But in fact, we Christians should be taking a more positive perspective of the future. We see the future as being in God’s hands, and we see that the future holds Christ’s roadmap for us and our lives.
The rhythm of life, and the pace of life’s schedule gives the constant hum of regularity and continuation. We might at times get the feeling that life has always been the way we are experiencing it, and it will always be the same way, as well. But this is not true.
The Bible says, “The night is almost gone, and the day is near.” We are right now living through the dark shadows of night. We are travailing through a deep valley in the land of worldliness. Here there are monsters and threats of all sorts. At times we may feel that we are overwhelmed by fear and uncertainty. But the truth is that we will make it safely through this valley of doom, and our dear Shepherd will bring us safely into His kingdom of light. We are nearing that happy shore every day we live. This text reminds us, “the day is near.” The daylight of happy love is just down the path which we are treading. Soon the nighttime will be over, and the dawning of the new eternal day will appear. How joyful be the sight to see the bright rays of eternal sunshine peaking over the horizon!
So, Christian friend, let us “lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.” Let us cast our vision to the coming promise just a little way over the horizon. Let us pick up our cross and carry our burdens for the Lord just a little while longer. Soon, these heavy afflictions will be past, and we can rest from our labors. Soon, the enemy (which is already defeated) will be banished from view and from our experience. We are right now delivered from the enemy’s grip and power, but soon we will be rescued from the enemy’s presence. Hallelujah! What a day that will be!
Dear Christian friend, let us put on “the armor of light” and live as children of light. We belong to the light, because we belong to Jesus. Even though we walk through enemy territory now, soon we will be finished with the land of shadows and death. Soon we will shout with conquering joy for we will be brought to the land of light and promise. Hang on, dear brother; hang on, dear sister in Christ. Do not despair, but continue to walk with Jesus, and continue to serve your Master with love and obedience. It won’t be long till we will be leaving here; it won’t be long till our victorious Captain will unsheathe His sword and bring His chosen people home. John heard Jesus say, “Behold, I come quickly”; let us reply with John by saying, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”(See Revelation 22:20).
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to continue on until the day You come for me. Help me to be faithful and true. Give me strength to walk with You and do Your work. I love You. Amen.
