Week 16
John 1:17 “Grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.”
What a perfect pairing “grace” and “truth” make together! How glorious to find truth presented graciously, and how comforting it is to find grace supported and strengthened by truth. These majestic concept “brothers” are beautiful alone, but together…they are magnificent!
And where may these glorious virtues be found but in Jesus Christ? The Bible says of Jesus, “grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.” Surely this means that Jesus’ person is beautifully colored by grace and truth. Everything Jesus said and did had these wonderful qualities to it. When He spoke, He spoke truth and grace; when He worked a miracle, grace and truth could be seen in action. He WAS grace; HE was the truth. Once Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6).”
Let us remember that Jesus came to seek and to save those who were lost (Luke 19:10); He comes to be our Savior and hope through His saving work in grace and truth.
Today we must remember that Jesus deals with us graciously and truthfully. We will find rich grace in His sweet kindness. He will not cast us away from Him; He will not turn away from us in our pain and sorrow. Rather, He will give grace to the sinner and mercifully work in the lives of those who are broken and weak.
But Jesus’ grace is soaked in truth; He will not compromise to accommodate us. We must see that Jesus is the measure of truth because Jesus IS truth! He will not lie to us, and He will not placate us. Jesus will not appease or mollify us to make us feel better. He will speak the truth through His Scripture to us. Thus, He will teach us the truth and lead us in the truth.
But His truth will always be kind and gentle; He does not wish to destroy us but to give us life. The Scripture says, “The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but I come that you may have life, and have it abundantly(Jesus, John 10:10).”
Christian friend, how precious Jesus is! He gives us all that we need; we find everything in Him! He will give us truth, and He will be gracious and tender with us. He is glorious beyond compare! Look to Him, trust in Him, love Him, follow Him, worship Him, and take delight in Him. You are of all people most blessed to belong to Him! You will never find Him lacking, and you will never regret being His.
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to see that in You I have all that I need. Nothing in this world compares to You. I need grace, and You are gracious; I need truth, and You are truth. Thank You for loving me; thank You for choosing me. I look to You today for all that I need. Please give me guidance, strength, wisdom, and hope to face the challenge of this day. Amen.
