Terry’s Tidbits

Terry’s Tidbits

Welcome to the First Baptist Church of Fenton! Thank you for visiting our web home! As you peruse through the pages, you will learn about the First Baptist Church of Fenton and its ministries. We are dedicated to preaching and teaching the doctrines of grace for all to hear!

First Baptist Church welcomes you to participate in the variety of Bible studies it provides on Sunday morning & evening, Tuesday morning for women, and Wednesday night. Our studies vary from large to small groups, all ages, or special interest. Regardless of class, spiritual maturity is the desired outcome for all classes. Come and Learn! Come and Grow!

First Baptist is a church also dedicated to ministering through mission projects. The church sends teams literally all over the world, and some members have gone on their own to serve the Lord in Armenia and Haiti. You will also discover mission work on a monthly basis as members volunteer at Feed My People, provide meals at the de Greef Hospice House at St. Anthony’s, or take care of our own members through the Deacon and Women’s Ministries. Our people are working to take the gospel to the masses or to the neighbor next door.

My wife, Kay, and I came to Fenton in January 1988 after I received the Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas in December 1987. As an Associate Pastor, I oversee all the Educational ministries, Administrative ministries, and the Youth Ministry of FBCF.

Adjunct at Missouri Baptist University

New Heart Needed

New Heart Needed J.C. Ryle in his book “Old Paths”, says the following about the need of sinners for a new heart: “Would you know the reason why such multitudes around yo take no interest in religion? They have no real concern about God, or Christ, or the Bible, or heaven, or hell, or judgment, or eternity. They care for nothing but what they shall eat,…

Koinonia Groups

K-Groups will begin Sunday, June 25, at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The theme for this summer’s study will be Holy Heart Affections. God created us in our humanity to know, experience, and share love, joy, and peace. The Bible tells us that these affections are made holy in our Christian experience so that we love God, we enjoy God, and we share the peace of…

Controlled by the Love of Christ

Controlled by the Love of Christ 2 Corinthians 5:14 “For the love of Christ controls us…” Philippians 3:7 “But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” Paul was consumed by love…

Remember the Risen Christ!

Remember the Risen Christ! 2 Timothy 2:8 NASB “Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead…” “The church is ever exposed to the world, ever vulnerable to its alternative reading of reality, its system of values, its outlook, its habits, its prejudices, its temptations, its counterfeit gospels, its fraudulent hopes, its dangers, its pressures, its…

The Magnificence and Priority of the Gospel

The Magnificence and Priority of the Gospel! “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 NASB This passage of Scripture is incredibly relevant for all people for…

The Power of the Scriptures

The Power of the Scriptures “For the word of God is piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 NASB “Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, ‘Brethren, what shall we…

Renewing the Mind – The Key

Every Christian wants to grow spiritually. Every Christian wants to conquer sin and develop true godliness in life experience. If a person claims to be a Christian, but has no interest in defeating sin and growing in righteousness, then there is serious question about whether or not this person is truly saved. But the question is this: how can a Christian fight against…

Discerning the Devil

I am haunted by the story of the satanic deception of Peter in Matthew 16:21-23. Jesus has plainly stated that he must suffer and die before rising again from the dead. Peter was struck dumbfounded by the idea of the Messiah suffering and dying. This was totally incongruous to him; therefore, Peter brashly asserted that Jesus was wrong (verse 22). Jesus promptly and…

Hints for True Conversions

Observations of God’s Work in True Conversions “When they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy…(but) they have no firm root…(they) are only temporary…others…are the ones who have heard the word, but the worries of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it…
